Children's Programs
Our classes are differentiated by children’s ages and their assigned year in school.
Classes are currently structured as follows:
Nursery care may be available for infants and toddlers. Please check with the Director of Religious Education for a schedule of Nursery coverage.
Preschool is offered for children ages 3-4 years old. The curriculum used by this class is Friendship Finders (a series of lessons that introduce young children to the structure and routine of a church school class). Each lesson includes ritual, story and a related activity. Younger children are welcome to attend with a parent or caregiver.
Kindergarten, Grades 1 & 2 meet together for class lessons. Some curricula used to integrate our Pillars include We Believe, Picture Book World Religions, Rainbow Children, In Our Hands and other sources.
Grades 3, 4 & 5 meet together for class lessons. Curricula used by this group include: We Believe, Picture Book World Religions, How Can I Know What to Believe?, In Our Hands and other sources.
Although our K-2 and Grades 3-5 groups use some of the same curricula, and even some of the same lessons, sessions are differentiated for different ages.
We schedule our classes and activities using a model known as “Way Cool Sunday School”.
On the first two Sundays of the month, children and youth meet in age differentiated class settings.
On the third Sunday of the month, children meet in a multiage group for Peace & Justice lessons/activities.
On the fourth Sunday of the month, children meet in a multiage group for KidSpirit Sunday (activities, service projects, programs with special guests)
In months where a fifth Sunday occurs, please watch scheduling for class or worship events.
We offer Multigenerational Worship Services through out the year when all children and youth are invited to attend worship with their families. We consider these services a key component of your child’s religious experience here at UUCH. When planning Multigenerational Worship services, the Minister, the D.R.E. and the Music Director work closely together to intentionally craft an experience to be enjoyed by those of all ages. Such services often include an interactive component, youth oriented music and readings and when possible, youth participation. Some of our Multigenerational Worship services include All Souls Day, The Living Nativity, Dr. Martin Luther King Breakfast and Worship and our annual Earth Service. We will offer other Multigenerational services through out the year.
